TEHRAN - Kuwait put an end on Sunday night to Iran’s reign in the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship.
Abdulaziz Al Mashan gave Kuwait a lead in the 10th minute and Yousef Al Sulaiman scored the team’s second goal just seconds before the break. The four-time WAFF champion failed to show a good performance in the second half. Kuwait could have won with more goals, but Iran keeper Mehdi Rahmati had some excellent saves.
Iran pulled a goal back when substitute player Milad Meidavoudi headed the ball into the net in the injury time.
“Kuwait players used delaying tactic and disarranged our team’s cohesion,” Iran coach Afshin Ghotbi said.
